The short version: EpiPaws stores your pet's health data on your device and, if you choose, in your personal iCloud account. We don't operate our own application backend for storing pet records, we don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising or third-party tracking. The one exception: if you use the opt-in Smart Import feature, the content of your import file is sent to Anthropic's AI to parse it — you'll always be asked before this happens, and that data may be processed outside your country of residence.
EpiPaws is an iOS application developed by Rockethound ("we", "us", "our"). EpiPaws is designed to help owners and carers of epileptic dogs and cats track seizures, manage medications, monitor drug levels, and prepare for vet visits.
Questions about this policy can be sent to contact@rockethound.io.
EpiPaws only collects information that you actively enter into the app. This includes:
EpiPaws does not require you to create an account and does not intentionally collect personal information beyond information you voluntarily provide, such as a support email address. We may also receive limited transaction identifiers from Apple when you make an in-app purchase.
This is intended for pet health data. EpiPaws is designed for recording information about your animal companion. It is not intended to collect human medical information, though we cannot prevent you from entering free-text notes of any kind.
All data you enter into EpiPaws is stored locally on your device. EpiPaws does not operate its own application backend for storing pet records.
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your data may be backed up to your personal iCloud account. This backup occurs between your own Apple devices only and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to data stored in your iCloud account.
You can disable iCloud backup at any time in your iPhone's Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → EpiPaws.
EpiPaws does not use advertising networks, third-party analytics SDKs, or any tracking software. The app does not display ads.
The only third-party services involved in your data are:
Your data is used exclusively to provide the features of the app — logging seizures, generating vet summaries, tracking medication schedules, and so on. We do not:
EpiPaws includes a Smart Import feature that lets you bring in existing seizure records — such as spreadsheets, notes, or exported files — and have them automatically parsed into your log.
To make this work, the imported document is sent to Anthropic (the company that makes the Claude AI model) for processing. This only happens if you choose to use Smart Import. It is entirely opt-in — you will be asked to confirm before any data leaves your device.
What gets sent to Anthropic: The content of the file or text you choose to import — typically dates, seizure descriptions, medication names, and durations. This data is used solely to parse and structure the import. According to Anthropic's API data usage policy at the time of writing, data submitted via their API is not used to train their generative AI models. Anthropic may retain API data for limited periods for safety and abuse monitoring purposes.
International transfers: If you use Smart Import, the content of your import file may be processed by Anthropic on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. By choosing to use Smart Import you consent to this transfer.
Anthropic's handling of data submitted via their API is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy, which we encourage you to review. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of statements about Anthropic's data practices beyond what their published policy states.
If you prefer not to share any data with Anthropic, you can still add past records to EpiPaws manually. Smart Import is a convenience feature only — the rest of the app works entirely on-device.
EpiPaws uses iOS local notifications to send medication reminders and refill alerts. These notifications are scheduled and generated entirely on your device — no data is transmitted to any server in order to deliver them. You can manage or disable notifications at any time in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → EpiPaws.
EpiPaws offers optional premium features available via in-app purchase. All payments are processed securely by Apple through the App Store. EpiPaws does not receive, store, or have access to your payment card details or billing information — Apple handles the transaction and provides us only with a confirmation that a purchase was made. Apple's handling of payment data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Because EpiPaws stores data on your device and optionally in your iCloud account, you are in direct control of your data at all times. You can:
GDPR (UK & EU residents): If you are based in the UK or European Union, you have additional rights under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, including the right to data portability, the right to object to processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. For locally stored data, you remain in control of your information because records are stored on your device and iCloud account. We act as a data controller only for the limited processing necessary to provide the app and any support services — for example, responding to support emails. Our lawful basis for this processing is performance of a contract (providing the app) and, for Smart Import, your explicit consent given at the point of use. Contact contact@rockethound.io with any requests. Note: we recommend seeking independent legal advice for formal GDPR compliance questions.
CCPA (California residents): EpiPaws does not sell personal information. California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising their rights. We do not maintain centralised user accounts or store pet records on our own servers. Any personal information we hold is limited to support communications and Apple-provided transaction confirmations, as described in this policy.
EpiPaws is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app records information about pets, not people. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us at contact@rockethound.io.
Your data is retained on your device for as long as the app is installed. Deleting the app removes locally stored app data from your device, subject to any device or iCloud backups managed by Apple. iCloud backup copies are removed when you disable iCloud for EpiPaws or delete the app's backup data via Apple's settings. Support emails are retained only as long as necessary to resolve your query.
EpiPaws relies on the built-in security features of iOS — device encryption, Face ID / Touch ID, and iCloud security — to protect your data. Because pet records are primarily stored locally on-device rather than on servers operated by us, exposure from centralised data storage is significantly reduced. However, no system is completely risk-free: third-party services such as Anthropic (for Smart Import) and Apple (for iCloud and payments) each handle data under their own security practices and policies.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of EpiPaws after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
EpiPaws is a record-keeping tool. Nothing in the app, or in any reports it generates, constitutes veterinary advice. Always consult a qualified vet for medical decisions regarding your pet.
