EpiPaws  ·  Last updated: June 2026  ·  Effective: June 2026

The short version: EpiPaws stores your pet's health data on your device and, if you choose, in your personal iCloud account. If you sign in with Apple to back up across devices or to share a pet's care with someone (co-ownership), a copy of that pet's data is also stored on our secure backend so it can sync and be shared — but only with the people you invite. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use third-party tracking. Two things send data off your device, and both are opt-in: Smart Import (sends your import file to Anthropic's AI to parse) and accounts/sharing (stores data on our backend). You stay in control and can delete your account and all its server-stored data at any time from inside the app.

Who we are

EpiPaws is an iOS application developed by Rockethound ("we", "us", "our"). EpiPaws is designed to help owners and carers of epileptic dogs and cats track seizures, manage medications, monitor drug levels, and prepare for vet visits.

For data-protection purposes, Rockethound is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Questions can be sent to contact@rockethound.io.

What data EpiPaws collects

EpiPaws only collects information that you actively enter into the app, plus the minimum needed to run the optional account features. This includes:

You do not need an account to use EpiPaws. An account is only required if you choose to use cloud sync (back up across your devices) or sharing (co-ownership). We may also receive limited transaction identifiers from Apple when you make an in-app purchase.

This is intended for pet health data. EpiPaws is designed for recording information about your animal companion. It is not intended to collect human medical information, though we cannot prevent you from entering free-text notes of any kind.

How your data is stored

By default, all data you enter into EpiPaws is stored locally on your device.

If you have iCloud enabled, your data may also be backed up to your personal iCloud account. This is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, and we do not have access to it. You can disable iCloud backup at any time in Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → EpiPaws.

If you sign in (cloud sync & sharing). If you choose to sign in with Apple to back up across devices or to share a pet with a co-owner or carer, a copy of that pet's data (profile, logs, medications, etc.) is stored on our secure backend, operated for us by Cloudflare. At that point we hold a copy of your data and are responsible for safeguarding it. We use it only to sync your own devices, deliver the pet's information to people you have explicitly invited, and power the related notifications. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. You can delete your account and all server-stored data at any time from Settings → Account & sync → Delete account.

Accounts, cloud sync & sharing (co-ownership)

Signing in with Apple is optional and unlocks two things:

Sharing requires a premium subscription for the pet owner; the people you share with do not need a subscription. Invites are sent as a private link that you share with the person you choose; whoever opens it and signs in with Apple gains the access level you set, and you can see who has accepted and revoke them at any time.

When sharing is active, the people involved may receive push notifications about that pet — for example when a dose is given, when a scheduled dose is overdue, or when a seizure is logged. Each person controls which of these they receive.

Third-party services

The EpiPaws app does not use advertising networks, third-party analytics SDKs, or any tracking software, and it does not display ads. (Our marketing website uses privacy-friendly analytics that only run with your consent — see Website analytics & cookies below.) The third-party services involved in your app data are:

Website analytics & cookies

This section applies to our website (the pages at rockethound.io), not the EpiPaws app. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use the site — which pages are popular, which links get clicked — so we can improve it.

Analytics is off by default. The first time you visit, a banner lets you accept or decline analytics cookies, and nothing is sent to Google Analytics unless you choose "Accept." Your choice is stored on your own device and can be reset at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this site.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies and processes data such as a randomised identifier, pages viewed, approximate location (your IP address is anonymised), device and browser type, and the site that referred you. Google processes this on our behalf; we do not use it to identify you personally, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it. See Google's Privacy Policy for more. We rely on your consent as the legal basis for analytics cookies under UK GDPR and the EU GDPR / ePrivacy rules.

Aside from this opt-in analytics, the website stores only a small amount of data locally on your device to remember your theme (light or dark) preference and your cookie choice. These are not used to track you.

How we use your data

Your data is used exclusively to provide the features of the app — logging seizures, generating vet summaries, tracking medication schedules, syncing your devices, and sharing with people you invite. We do not:

For pets you've backed up or shared, our backend processes your data only to sync it to your own devices and to the people you've explicitly invited — and for nothing else.

Smart Import and AI processing

EpiPaws includes a Smart Import feature that lets you bring in existing seizure records — such as spreadsheets, notes, or exported files — and have them automatically parsed into your log.

To make this work, the imported document is sent to Anthropic (the company that makes the Claude AI model) for processing. This only happens if you choose to use Smart Import. It is entirely opt-in — you will be asked to confirm before any data leaves your device.

What gets sent to Anthropic: The content of the file or text you choose to import — typically dates, seizure descriptions, medication names, and durations. This data is used solely to parse and structure the import. According to Anthropic's API data usage policy at the time of writing, data submitted via their API is not used to train their generative AI models. Anthropic may retain API data for limited periods for safety and abuse monitoring purposes.

International transfers: If you use Smart Import, the content of your import file may be processed by Anthropic on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. By choosing to use Smart Import you consent to this transfer.

Anthropic's handling of data submitted via their API is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy, which we encourage you to review.

If you prefer not to share any data with Anthropic, you can still add past records to EpiPaws manually. Smart Import is a convenience feature only.

Notifications

EpiPaws uses iOS local notifications to send medication reminders and refill alerts. These are scheduled and generated entirely on your device — no data is transmitted to deliver them.

If you use sharing, EpiPaws also sends push notifications about a shared pet (for example, when a dose is given, when a dose is overdue, or when a seizure is logged) to the people who have opted in. These are delivered via Apple's Push Notification service. You can manage or disable notifications at any time in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → EpiPaws, and shared-care alerts can be toggled within the app.

In-app purchases

EpiPaws offers optional premium features available via in-app purchase. All payments are processed securely by Apple through the App Store. EpiPaws does not receive, store, or have access to your payment card details or billing information — Apple handles the transaction and provides us only with a confirmation that a purchase was made. Apple's handling of payment data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Your rights

You are in control of your data at all times. You can:

GDPR (UK & EU residents): If you are based in the UK or European Union, you have rights under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, data portability, the right to object to or restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. For data stored only on your device and iCloud, you remain in direct control. For data you back up or share via your account, we act as data controller; our lawful bases are your consent (signing in, backing up, and sharing are each optional and reversible) and our legitimate interests in providing and securing the service. You can withdraw consent by signing out, stopping sharing, or deleting your account. Contact contact@rockethound.io with any requests. We recommend seeking independent legal advice for formal GDPR compliance questions.

CCPA (California residents): EpiPaws does not sell personal information. California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising their rights. The personal information we hold is limited to what's described in this policy: data you choose to back up or share via your account, support communications, and Apple-provided transaction confirmations.

Children's privacy

EpiPaws is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app records information about pets, not people. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us at contact@rockethound.io.

Data retention

Data on your device is retained for as long as the app is installed. Deleting the app removes locally stored app data, subject to any device or iCloud backups managed by Apple.

Data stored on our backend (for signed-in users) is retained while your account is active. When you delete your account in the app, your account and all associated server-stored data are permanently deleted, and access for anyone you had shared with is removed. Support emails are retained only as long as necessary to resolve your query.

Security

EpiPaws relies on the built-in security features of iOS — device encryption, Face ID / Touch ID, and iCloud security — to protect data on your device. For signed-in users, backed-up and shared data is stored on our backend (Cloudflare) and protected in transit and at rest under their security practices; access is limited to your own devices and the people you explicitly invite. No system is completely risk-free: third-party services such as Cloudflare, Anthropic (Smart Import), and Apple (iCloud, sign-in, push, payments) each handle data under their own security practices and policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of EpiPaws after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

Not veterinary advice

EpiPaws is a record-keeping tool. Nothing in the app, or in any reports it generates, constitutes veterinary advice. Always consult a qualified vet for medical decisions regarding your pet.
